God Is... Faithful to Sustain

Working in ResLife has been one of the most rewarding things for me already so early in this journey. However, this portion of the journey has been quite stressful. There's an overwhelming amount of information being given to you, what feels like a million things that need to be laminated (did I mention that the laminator is broken?), welcome letters and fliers that need to be written/made and approved, RCR's (which is literally going into every single room and writing down every single thing that is wrong), a meeting around every corner and a ton of other things that need to be done before students arrive this weekend.
I found myself sitting down today and wondering what on earth I had signed up for. This is chaotic and crazy and stressful... and I intentionally signed up for it.
As I sat there I began to think about Peter, and the storm he intentionally walked into as well. He heard Jesus' call, and that call just so happened to be surrounded by a storm. Peter signed up to walk through chaos because that's what The Lord had called him to for that moment in his life. And because Jesus had called him? He was confident. He was secure. He was steadfast in the decision that he had made.
Now, even Peter had a moment of weakness. He began to question the very decision he was just minutes ago so sure about. Had Jesus really called him out on these crazy waters? Was he really where he was supposed to be? Should he retreat and just turn back? And it was in that split second of questioning that Peter became overwhelmed with the chaos around him and began to sink.
Just like Peter, some of us have intentionally walked into some chaotic, crazy, stressful situations -- but we did it because we clearly heard Him calling and beckoning us. The call is not always butterflies and fields; sometimes it's winds and waves. And sometimes while the waves are waging and the wind is knocking us around we begin to question and ponder the call we so clearly heard. It is then that we begin to feel overwhelmed, unqualified and unfit for the job at hand.
Let me just assure you of this:
You heard Him clearly.
You were called to this assignment in your life. Called to this chaotic craziness. And I want to assure you that He equips those that He calls.
The key to surviving the storm is keeping your eyes on the one who called you. The storm WILL rage... but which will you choose to focus on? The waves, or the maker of the waves?
Now, I know this is easier said than done, focusing on Jesus rather than the craziness that's going on around us.. and that's why there's grace. Even as Peter lost his focus and began to sink, Jesus was faithful enough to still come and save him from drowning. Peter went through the storm, but because he'd been called into it? He wasn't harmed by it.
So, you may feel like you're drowning. You may feel like you're in over your head; but please remember that the one who called you to this has not forgotten you in this. He won't let you drown in these moments of doubt and stress, and I promise that you will not sink. You may walk through it, but you won't be hurt by it.
The one that called you, is faithful to sustain you.
So whether it be a new job, or a new ministry that the Lord has called you to, a new chapter/journey in life, or maybe something as simple as a new role on your college campus, whatever your new crazy looks like..... remember to keep your eyes on the maker of the storm. He won't let you sink.
