Our Story
At Compassion in Crisis, we believe that hope is born through action rooted in love. Inspired by James 1:27, our mission is to care for orphans, widows, and families in crisis by meeting practical needs, fostering long-term restoration, and reflecting the heart of Christ in every effort.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing hands-on, relational support to vulnerable children and communities in under-resourced nations. Our work is grounded in the belief that every person—especially every child—deserves to be seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Where We Serve
Over the past year, Compassion in Crisis has expanded its global reach, supporting children and families in:
Eswatini (formerly Swaziland): We work closely with the Selulasandla Vashti McKenzie Children’s Village, a refuge for children who have endured poverty, abandonment, and abuse. In 2024–2025, our team provided basic necessities (undergarments, hygiene items, towels), facilitated room renovations, initiated tutoring and pen pal programs, led staff trainings on resilience and positive discipline, and developed a media and protection policy to safeguard the dignity of every child.
Tanzania: We partnered with The Village of Hope, where we helped establish a Christ-centered after-school program providing homework support, mentorship, devotions, snacks, and meals three days a week. We also made home and school visits to check on children's well-being, provided spiritual and emotional care, and collaborated on revitalizing the children’s village through Project Village of Hope.
Our Initiatives
Our work is multifaceted, with a strong focus on long-term impact. Core initiatives include:
The Pizza Party Project: Each year, we mentor 10–20 children from underserved communities and reward their academic and behavioral growth with a celebratory pizza party. It’s more than just pizza—it’s a recognition of their resilience and hard work.
Holistic Child Support: We provide practical resources, emotional healing, educational support, and spiritual guidance. This includes distributing basic needs, organizing play therapy programs, and mentoring both children and caregivers.
Staff Training & Empowerment: We equip caregivers and staff at children's homes with tools for trauma-informed care, positive discipline, and emotional resilience—empowering them to lead with compassion.
Media and Protection Advocacy: We uphold strong policies to protect the dignity and privacy of every child. Our images and stories are never used for marketing but only for accountability and reporting, always without names or identifying details.
Fundraising & Community Mobilization: Through events like our annual fundraising gala, clothing drives, and partnerships with churches and local groups, we rally resources to meet urgent needs and sustain our programs.
Our Vision
We envision a world where no child feels forgotten. A world where every orphan, every widow, and every hurting soul is met with kindness, support, and love. Through global partnerships and grassroots service, we aim to be a bridge between crisis and restoration—between despair and hope.
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..." - James 1:27
